Sightseeing

The main attraction on the Outer Banks will always be the beautiful beaches.  The history and natural beauty of the Outer Banks also offers visitors a number of other memorable experiences.

The Wright Brothers Memorial in Kill Devil Hills features a visitors center and a chance to explore the site where the Wright Brothers launched the first successful airplane flights.

A hike up the sand dunes of Jockey's Ridge State Park in Nags Head is a must do for any guests.  Bring a kite, watch the hangliders, or just enjoy watching the kids slide down the huge natural dunes.

A stroll through the Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo will enspire the gardener in your group.

Also in Manteo, the Roanoke Island Festival Park offers family activities and the Pirate Adventures is always a hit with the kids.   While you are there stop by the North Carolina Aquarium and make sure to see the sharks.  Finish a fun day with an evening performance of The Lost Colony outdoors at the Waterside Theatre in Manteo.  Bring bug spray.

If you are in Corolla, plan time to visit the Currituck Lighthouse and stroll the grounds of the historic Whalehead Club

If you can make it through all of these historic events and want more beach time, be sure to drive south to Hatteras Island to enjoy more great beaches and natural scenery at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.  Beach driving, fishing, the Buxton lighthouse and dinner at the Dolphin's Den in Avon will delight the whole family.
